Just played a guy using the colts. He ran the ball alot and kept me honest, but literally EVERY SINGLE TIME i didnt have two safeties over the top, he just bombed it up to Garcon and had my corner beat every single time by about 5 yard. I never played BNR once, just regular man to man. I had a 93 speed corner assigned to garcon the whole game. Cover 1 didnt stop it, i literally had to play 2 man under. And he beat me deep once when I was in a cover 2 invert to stop the run, where the corner is the deep blue and should never let anyone behind me. Ugh SO FRUSTRATING. I just dont get it. I cant even switch on to try and make a play because the defensive back in beat so bad. Why reward people for just chucking it up, something that takes no skill?

what formation?

there might be a wierd streak route in it or something

But in a cover 3 i very rarely (mean like prob 5 times) will get st8 out beat deep on a streak to the outside and i have brent grimes 88 spd out there.

hows your CBs zone defense rating?

was it a lead pass inside?

no I went back and looked at replays. Just a simple streak. He was in a shotgun formation with garcon on the far right.

No pass leads. He just threw a lob every time and garcon had him beat. I ran with saints and had porter manned up to garcon, 93 speed, 92 overall, so im pretty sure his zone rating has to be fairly high. On the play where I got beat in the cover 2 invert, I did shade my zones to the middle and put my deep safety in a spy and played the run. When I went back and looked at the reply the corner over garcon started sliding in like he was supposed to, and since garcon was on the far outside, when the passed was lobbed up there he was too far inside to make a play on it. He may have had a slot receiver on garcons side running a post or something, that might have sucked the corner in too much. Not sure.

Yea that happens.. Been running saints lately and mostly zone.. Dont remeber his man cov but im pretty certain its not great... Have you tried cov audibling zones to sideline (do it twice seems like it makes a diff but dunno lol)

I disagree. The thing that makes defense supposedly "better" this year is the randomness of QB's accuracy & the long QB wind-up. I hate when ppl say defense is better this year. Because truthfully, it isn't. For instance:

Players in Deep Blue Zones don't know how far to drop back. I could understand the CPU having trouble vs a "Flood Concept". But if its a single WR on your CB, & you call Cover 3 Press, Curl routes shouldn't be open 100% of the time. That play is supposed to guard against that.

Players in Flat Blue Zones shouldn't randomly jam WRs off the line of scrimmage. WF Colonel mentioned this earlier. This really hurts your defense, because it allows players to throw to the Flats vs Cover 2 plays.

And please don't get me started on Man Coverage!!! SMH."

What I will say is that most of these things don't happen 100% of the time. But they happen enough to be an issue. I know Madden 11 had defensive limitations. But at least they were pretty clear cut & you could adjust accordingly , if you knew what to look for. This year it seems you have to sell out at times to cover up some of these things. I don't think we should have to commit 2 defenders in zone (and a spotlight!!! LOL!) to defend a simple "Slant out" concept.

the way zones play in madden is how the vast majority of zone defenses are played in football. They play a area of the field - some spot zone defenses will play a area but will actually tail off to play man to man if offensive players come into there area

purples play perfectly in terms of depth. they arent meant to cover the deep corner. they are a curl to flat route.

they cover the curl UNLESS there is a flat route which they will jump.

the issue is that visually purple routes look like they should cover the deep corner

The issue with these streaks isn't the regular playmakered streaks, it's the angled ones up the seams that you can throw versus man and SPC versus zone. sooo good. tooo good.

curl flat zones are supposed re route seam routes (if in the position to) but I would most def let that slide in madden because that could get ugly for a defense. Then drop to the curl area and if no curl threat they play the flats if there is a flat threat. If none of the above the player is supposed to gain depth

thats my main problem with them. Its a zone that is ment to be a bend but dont break zone. Its a "let them get the catch in the flats, we will take that 3 yard gain all day long" zone

Literally, thats the exact sentence that my coach told my HS when we were at 7 on 7 events

that my main issue with the zone in madden is because a cover 3 with purples instead of flat zones going against a curl flats play should be an amazing play call. As an offense your only clean read is the flats and I will give up that 3 yards all day long..Or you could try and test me if you have a sit down route over the middle


but the issues of purples are for another thread at another time lol
